Julia Rose

Julia Rose joined the West Baton Rouge Museum in August 2006. She earned her doctorate degree from Louisiana State University College of Education in Baton Rouge. Julia’s research was focused on interpreting 18th and 19th century Louisiana historical plantation museums. Julia earned a master of arts in teaching in museum education from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and completed an internship at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery. She also interned at the Museum of American Folk Art in New York, NY and the Albany Institute of History and Art, in New York. Julia earned her bachelor of arts in fine art from the State University of New York at Albany. Julia has been a curator of education at several museums over the years and continues to be an advocate for museum learning and for the field of museum education.





Our curator, Lauren Davis, cares for the artifacts in our collection and develops exhibits at the museum. She graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Anthropology and History, she then received her master of arts in Anthropology from the University of South Carolina. In addition to receiving a certification degree in museum studies, she focused her graduate research on historical plantation archaeology. She has worked for the Louisiana Division of Archaeology in its collections facility as an archaeological field and lab worker for several years, and as a museum intern for the McKissick Museum at the University of South Carolina. Jeannie Giroir Luckett, our Education Curator, has an Art Education degree from Louisiana State University. She has also received training through the Louisiana Association of Museums, the Louisiana Art Education Association, and the American Association for State and Local History, in addition to attending regional conferences in her fields of expertise. She was named Museum Person of the Year in 1997 and continues to gain accolades for her work. She is responsible for interpretative and public programming at the museum and has developed several award-winning programs including “Blast from the Past” living history camp which was recognized in Southern Living Magazine, and “Grandmother Marguerite’s Trunk,” an interactive program that travels out to area schools, retirement centers, and community groups.





Alice Leblanc, our Administrative Assistant, has been in that position for ten years.




Laurie Roche', our newest staff member, is our part time Visitor Services Coordinator. Laurie is a resident of West Baton Rouge Parish and recently retired from the Louisiana Department of Education. Laurie manages the museum's promotional and marketing efforts and schedules school tours and Elderhostel programs.
